Susana Gullco Groisman
She graduated with distinction in British History and Literature from the Instituto Superior del Profesorado "Dr. Joaquín V. González" and was a lecturer in Contemporary British Literature in her alma mater institution for forty years (having gone through competition to obtain tenure in 1975).
She has been a guest speaker at numerous educational centres in our country. She is the former Head of the English Department at the I.S.P."J. V. González" and former President of APIBA. At present she belongs to the team of Literature lecturers at the English Speaking Scholastic Association of the River Plate Centre.
Advanced speakers of English, lovers of reading.
1- To share the joys of reading.
2- To discuss Anthony Burgess’s statement: (a good literary novel) "must leave in the reader's mind a sort of philosophical residue. A view of life has been indirectly propounded that seems new, even surprising". 3- To get acquainted with the Booker McConnell Prize (founded in 1969) and its development since then. This Prize was financed by this company (a multinational conglomerate) until April 2002 when the Booker Prize Foundation announced that Man Group (a broking business) was the new commercial sponsor. The Man Booker Prize is awarded to writers from the British Commonwealth and Ireland. This is done annually by a panel of judges for what, in their opinion, is the best full-length novel published in the previous 12 months. The award is accompanied by considerable publicity and media excitement.
The material should be carefully read before the sessions to ensure participation. Please check the order in which the novels will be discussed.
- Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie (1981 Booker Prize and 1993 and 2008 Best of Bookers). - The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy (1997 Booker Prize). - The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (2008 Booker Prize).
