Charlie Gilderdale

Charlie Gilderdale is a member of the University of Cambridge's Millennium Mathematics Project. He develops secondary-level content for the NRICH
website http://nrich.maths.org and works in schools with students and teachers. His recent work has focused on problem solving within the classroom and
on creating opportunities for learning mathematics through exploration and discussion. Charlie speaks in Spanish so participants will be able to interact with him in Spanish if they feel more comfortable.
All courses are for teachers who teach Maths to students between ages 9 and 18
Charlie Gilderdale, a leading Mathematics education specialist at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Education, will run the event and demonstrate how to implement global learner techniques - the capacity to use mathematics to solve complex, unfamiliar problems which might arise from real-life settings or
within matematics.
The course will also offer an opportunity to:
• Explore activities that challenge students to think mathematically.
• Consider how the activities can be integrated into the school curriculum.
• Highlight the value of challenging learners to ‘work and think like mathematicians’.
The seminar will include a mix of educational theory and practical methodology. Teachers will learn how to make mathematics fun and how to truly engage their students in how mathematics works.
