To explore Gillian Clarke's poetry, which will make students, and their teachers, ponder on topics as varied as the role of gender, or love, or place and time in our lives. For those teachers who would like to concentrate on a single poet - rather than on fifteen different ones as in the selection from Songs of Ourselves – Gillian Clarke's poetry is sufficiently interesting and accessible to teach.
The following 15 poems:

Journey
Baby-Sitting
Catrin
Still Life
Lunchtime
Lecture
Miracle on St David’s Day
Buzzard
Friesian Bull
Heron at Port Talbot
Neighbours
My Box
Pipistrelle
Clocks
Musician
Family House

These may be found in Collected Poems by Gillian Clarke (Carcanet). Poems printed in the paper will be printed as in this text.
A copy of the poems will be available at Essarp.
A blend of text-oriented and reader-oriented approaches for participants to be able to respond as freely as possible to the words of each text.
Articles on specific poems will be provided along the course.
