To acquaint participants with 13 Reasons Why, the interplay between the novel and its adaptation for Netflix, and discuss the topic of bullying, the influence of social networks, as well as exploring possible activities for language and literature classes.
- Jay Asher’s 13 Reasons Why. Analysis. Characterization. Audiovisual adaptations of the novel
- Brian Yorkey’s 13 Reasons Why. Main elements of mise-en-scène as one possible approach to analyse the adaptation. The audiovisual language.
-The impact of Netflix in the media. Streaming and its impact. How we “consume” information. The 13 Reasons Why “discussion” on streaming.
-The American Dream and its representation in 13 Reasons Why
-Bullying: how to explore this issue through literature and new media. Possible activities and ideas to be effectively incorporated in classes.

Hands-on practice workshop. During the session, we will analyze extracts from the novel and the audiovisual text and their possible transpositions into the classroom.
