Poe is everywhere: in music, films, paintings and Pop Culture. The influence of his work and the anxiety present in those who followed his ars poetica can be traced both in time and worldwide. From his very craft as a writer to the themes highlighted in his work the influence Poe has exercised is compared to almost no one else.
To celebrate 210 years of his birth, let’s reflect on his legacy: What do we read in Poe that is so provoking and compelling? What do we read today in his work: in The Simpsons and many films, in music, both national and international, in painting and several other artistic expressions? What do we read when we find Poe in Los tipitos, Bowie, Dylan or Ceratti? What did they read? How did they appropriate his language to make it something new yet referential? Is all work intertextual? What were the anxieties of the writer and of his interpreters? What did Borges say?
