- To explore Anita Desai’s In Custody by considering the context of production and what the characterization, themes and prose elements may be portraying about India.
- To discuss main themes as well as rhetorical devices that further meaning in the literary work.
- To provide literature teachers with ideas and possible pathways to analyse and work with the text in preparation for the IGCSE Literature Exam.
- To look into key passages through detailed readings to study how Desai constructs semantic fields to build up tension, humour and/or foreshadow events.
- To share teaching strategies regarding the approach to IGCSE component 3 essay or passage-based questions.
