Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. The purpose of this workshop is to take advantage of the pedagogical potential of short stories to delve into social and emotional learning.
- General overview of the state-of-the-art theory and definition of SEL
- Discussion and exploration of the instructional methods commonly used in SEL
- Discussion and exploration of different short stories that delve into SEL
- Discussion of the importance and/or effectiveness of SEL in school and life success
