Julia Fernández Armendariz

Julia Fernández Armendariz graduated as an English teacher from IES en Lenguas Vivas Juan R. Fernández, where she also completed specialisation courses in English Literature and British History. She holds a BA in Education from Universidad Nacional de Quilmes and a Postgraduate Certificate in English Studies from The University of Nottingham, England. Her areas of specialty include Postcolonial Studies, Border Theory and Historical Fiction. She teaches Literature II and Cultural Studies at IES en Lenguas Vivas "Juan R. Fernández", and English Literature and Culture at ENS en Lenguas Vivas "Sofia B. Spangenberg". She also works at Secondary school level.

Maria Victoria Llera

Victoria Llera is a Graduate Teacher of English from I. E. S en Lenguas Vivas "J. R. Fernández" and holds a BA in English Language from the University of San Martín. She is currently specializing in English Literature II and Literary Movements of the Twentieth Century at the I.E.S.L.V. “Juan Ramón Fernández” while teaching IGCSE/AS at Colegio Jesus Maria, Recoleta. She has taught IB Language B and has been working at the University of Buenos Aires, School of Philosophy and Letters, teaching language and delivering courses on Postcolonial Literature for the last six years.

- To delve into the world of Emily Brontë and her Wuthering Heights.
- To read, analyse and enjoy a selection of short stories and poems which write back to Wuthering Heights.
- To point out the choices behind the 1998, 2009 and 2011 film adaptations and their portrayal of characters.
- Emily Brontë, her life and work.
- Review of Wuthering Heights, literary criticism and its long-standing appeal and popularity.
- Analysis and commentary of the short stories: “Anima” by Grace McCleen, “One Letter Different” by Joanna Cannon and “The Cord” by Alison Case, all of them from I am Heatcliff. Stories inspired by Wuthering Heights (2018) curated by Kate Mosse and commissioned for Emily Brönte’s bicentenary year.
- Analysis and commentary of the poems “Weapons”, “Cliff of the Heath” and “Heathcliff in Exile” from the collection Heathcliff Adrift (2018) by Benjamin Myers.
- Debate on adaptation choices as reinterpretations of the original text and its impact. Movies: 1998 (Dir. David Skynner. Starring: Robert Cavanah and Orla Brady), 2009 (Dir. Coky Giedroyc. Starring: Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley) and 2011 (Dir. Andrea Arnold. Starring: James Howson and Kaya Scodelario).
-Participants who enroll in this course will be sent the short stories and poems to read beforehand. They are also advised to watch the films beforehand.
-Guided group discussion will be provided in order to analyse and enjoy the literary texts and films.
